OUR STORY

On March 11th, 2011,  the Northern region of Japan was hit by a 9.0M earthquake and tsunami which mercilessly wiped away more than twenty thousand lives. It was the most powerful quake ever to hit JapanThe survivors are suffering from loss of family, friends and home. Over 400,000 people are still stranded at evacuation facilities throughout the region. Many areas are still suffering from loss of electricity, lack of fresh water, a proper sewage system, and the constant nuclear and radioactive threat which increases the effects PTSD and illness.

In the midst of this devastation, we have heard many inspiring and hopeful stories of kindness, generosity, respect, and true humanity among the Japanese people. This tragic event reminded us of the good Japanese spirit of helping one another, propriety, and gentleness. This spirit of humanity has spread through the creation of charity organizations and events to help raise funds to support Japan's recovery.

KIBO Project was started by two Japanese women in San Francisco.
